A 195-Meter Mistake

You can do almost everything right and still not make sales. And it feels terrible.

You can do almost everything right

and still not make sales.

And it feels terrible.

Listen...

7 years ago, I ran my first marathon.

In Mexico City.

I was coming off three years of depression.

Tired. Sad.

Going to sleep with no desire to wake up.

The marathon became my lifeline.

My way of feeling different.

The race started.

And to my right, the signs began to appear.

Km 10:

This is easy. What was I worried about?

Km 21:

I'm halfway. Another 21 and I'm done.

Km 30:

What are 10 more little kilometers?

Km 40:

That's it. Just the final push.

Km 41.9:

Ready. Get ready for the picture.

Until something strange happened.

I reached kilometer 42 and was still outside the Olympic Stadium, where the marathon finished.

I had already given my last push. But the race wasn't over.

There were 195 meters left.

The distance needed to complete a marathon.

And oh, how they hurt.

Because I didn't expect them.

One leg begged the other for permission.

Each step was like carrying a sack of potatoes.

I ran them.

Almost in slow motion.

And I finished.

But I was close to not finishing.

Because of those blessed 195 meters.

If I had stopped at exactly 42 km,

all that effort would have been for nothing.

I would have been: the one who almost finished a marathon.

The exact same thing happens in your business.

You can have a good brand.

A good product.

A well-thought-out service and sales strategy.

And have it all fall apart in the final push.

  • In what your employee does in front of your customer.
  • How they served them.
  • If they ignored instructions or followed them.

That's where everything is decided. In those 195 meters.

The lesson is simple:

Your plan, your courses, your effort are useless if you can't get your employees to execute what you designed.

Do you want to know what your 195 meters are? I made a quick test to find them.

You can take it here:

I hope it helps you.

With care,

Carlos

P.S. Remember, serving is the way.
