I Know It Was Wrong
It was 7:00 AM. We had to leave. Or they'd be late for school.

It was 7:00 AM.
We had to leave.
Or they'd be late for school.
And my son, sprawled on the couch.
Angry.
Ignoring me.
- "Please, let's go."
Nothing.
- "I beg you, get up. We're going to be late."
Nothing.
Until I lost my patience.
I picked him up. We had to leave.
But he resisted:
- "Leave me alone! I don't want to!"
Then I lost my patience, squared.
- "Do what you want then!"
And I threw him back onto the couch.
My son looked at me with terror.
And I felt like the worst dad on Earth.
How dare I yell at him like that?
And throw him on the couch?
And you know what made it even worse?
I already knew other ways to handle a tantrum.
I read books, listened to podcasts, learned techniques.
But I didn't apply them when it mattered.
Has this happened to you?
That you learn the best way to face a challenge,
and when the moment of truth arrives, you don't apply it?
I'm sure it has.
Or at your job.
Or with your partner.
Or with your kids.
It feels awful, doesn't it?
Well, all this reveals an uncomfortable truth:
Change is hard.
Read that again:
Change is hard.
We are human.
We have bad habits.
MieDos.
And change is hard for us.
It's hard for you.
And it's hard for your team.
That's why they don't serve the customer like you asked.
That's why they don't apply the latest sales technique you taught them.
Remember:
Knowing something isn't enough.
The challenge is being able to apply it when it matters.
That's my obsession:
helping people change what they do.
So they serve better.
And sell more.

Serving is the way.
