"Carlos, thank you for your messages. I frequently forward them to my team."

I receive responses like this sometimes.

And every time they appear, they remind me why I insist so much on this idea of serving.

Even though they don't say:

"Carlos, I want to buy."

Nor do they say:

"Carlos, send me a proposal."

They say something much more valuable:

that I was able to serve them (even just a little).

And for me, that's no small thing.

Not because I think I'm Mother Teresa.

That would be concerning.

But because when something serves, it opens doors.

Let's see.

Many believe that serving puts you beneath the client.

Bowing your head, giving away your value, or making yourself small.

But they're wrong.

Serving doesn't make you less.

It makes you useful.

And when something is useful to the client, they pay attention.

Look.

The desperate salesperson knocks on the door to ask for something:

a call,

an appointment,

an opportunity,

fives minutes "to tell you what we do."

That's how they arrive.

Like a beggar: with an outstretched hand.

But the one who serves arrives differently.

Like a king.

I'm not talking about a king with a crown and a Napoleon complex.

But about someone whose door is opened without them asking.

Because they've already shown they bring something valuable before asking for anything.

And when you're useful, people look at you differently.

They listen to you differently.

They read you differently.

They share you with their team, with their family, with their friends.

So today's question is:

When you approach your client, do they feel you've come to waste their time or to give them something useful?

If this idea resonated with you, reply "serve" and I'll send you a chapter from my book, "I'm Here to Serve You."

Carlos.

Serving is the way.

P.S. Do you have a friend, partner, client, or family member who could benefit from thinking more about service and less about begging to sell?

Send this to them:

They register for free.

They read what serves them.

And if they don't like it, they can leave whenever they want.
