I Have a Problem with Parking Attendants

I have a problem with parking attendants. You know, the ones who "help you" park.

I have a problem with parking attendants.

You know them.

The ones who "help" you park.

The caretakers.

The "trapitos" (rag-men).

They get in the way.

They stand there "to help you."

They tell you the obvious.

And then they expect a tip.

"Turn, turn."

"A little further back."

In my case, it takes me longer to look for a coin to tip them

than to park on my own.

Besides, today's cars practically park themselves.

Cameras.

Sensors.

Beeps everywhere.

You don't need them.

Parking attendants get in the way

because they tell you what you already know.

That there's a tree behind you.

That there's a car in front.

And they charge you for it.

Without adding value.

And they're not the only ones.

Do you know who else gets in the way like that?

Most salespeople.

Because they do the same thing.

They give you information you can already get on your own

and charge you for it.

Today, a customer might know more about a product than the salesperson themselves.

They searched Google.

They asked ChatGPT.

They compared on Amazon.

And then the salesperson comes along and tells them the same things.

Or even worse:

less than what they already knew.

Should salespeople disappear?

No.

But they should stop being parking attendants.

A helpful salesperson isn't there to tell you what you already know.

They're there to help you think.

To ask you questions you haven't considered.

To help you make a better decision.

That adds value.

The question is:

Do your salespeople help?

Or do they just narrate what the customer has already seen?

This might be useful:
