No One Wants to Be the Witch in the Story

People don't change because of a course. You know this. You can hire the best speaker.

People don't change because of a course.

You know this.

You can pay the best speaker.

You can bring in the trendy guru.

You can make everyone applaud and leave motivated.

And still nothing changes.

If no one corrects afterward.

A few months ago I went to the dentist.

No choice. It was time for a cleaning.

I was lying down.

With the zhhhhhhhhhhhht of those machines that sound like a drill inside your mouth.

And a nurse, sweet on the outside,

but angry at life,

who scraped my teeth as if she were looking for gold in a rock.

There I was,

with my mouth wide open, and believe me, my mouth is big,

seeing her eyes full of fury against the plaque on my teeth.

— Do you drink a lot of coffee?

— AHH, ahem — I tried to answer with half a metallic arsenal in my mouth.

— And do you eat chocolate?

— Yessss.

— Well, your teeth are very dirty because of that.

I felt exposed.

Like a child being scolded in front of the class.

I got down from the chair,

gave a half-hearted "thank you" to my executioner,

and left.

Six months later they called me to schedule the next cleaning.

I didn't go back.

I didn't like being corrected.

But she was right.

Correction matters.

At the dentist.

At home.

And in your work team.

It's the difference between ideas that go down the drain

and teams that achieve great results.

Now think about this:

You pay for a sales course for your team.

They go.

They get excited.

They say it's the best thing they've experienced since sliced bread.

The next day they return to work.

And in front of the client, they go back to their old ways.

The boss sees it.

And stays silent.

There, your investment died.

The employee understood something very clear: it's just lip service.

Because in your team's mind there's a silent, but powerful phrase:

What my boss doesn't care about, I don't give a damn about.

The course lasts eight hours.

The boss is there every day.

And here comes the uncomfortable part.

No one likes to be the witch in the story.

No one wants to be disliked.

So we prefer to smile.

Let it slide.

And in that attempt to be likable

we strip power from everything we teach.

Without follow-up, training is expensive entertainment.

Another workshop.

Another video.

Corporate decoration.

Pretty.

Expensive.

Useless.

You say:

"I've already trained them."

No.

You informed them, which is different.

Because training implies correcting.

In the moment.

Without humiliating, but with firmness.

Because when the boss stays silent to avoid being the witch in the story

they teach the team that it wasn't that important.

And nothing that isn't important gets executed.

If this sounds familiar

and you're tired of paying for courses that change nothing,

we can look at it together.

Apply for a conversation with me.

And we'll decide if it's worth doing something about it.

Here.

Happy Saturday,

Carlos

P.S. Remember: serving is the way.
